CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team has released its schedule for the 2009 season. The season will begin on February 20 in DeLand, Fla. with a series against Stetson as part of a 14-game trip in the state of Florida. The last 11 games of the season will all be in Chestnut Hill at Commander Shea Field.

The Eagles will open their season in the Sunshine State for the first time since 2001. After a four-game series with the Hatters, BC will take on the Boston Red Sox at City of Palms Park in Fort Myers on February 25. In the annual exhibition last year, the defending World Series champions defeated the Eagles, 24-0.

BC will then stay in Fort Myers for six more games to face South Florida, Bethune-Cookman, Towson, and Samford in the Florida Gulf Coast Classic at Swanson Stadium. The Eagles will then take on Florida Gulf Coast in a two-game set on March 3 and 4.

The ACC schedule begins in Tallahassee with Florida State on March 6. The Seminoles are ranked No. 7 in the country in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s preseason poll. Before heading back to New England, the Eagles will cap off their southern trip with a series at No. 12 Georgia Tech beginning on March 13.

Following a non-conference tilt at Bryant on March 18, BC travels to College Park for a three-game series at Maryland on March 20.

Boston College will make its home debut on March 27 with an ACC series against No. 26 Clemson. Following a pair of non-conference road games, the Eagles return to Chestnut Hill to host NC State on April 3.

Massachusetts will be Boston College’s opponent in the first round of the Beanpot on April 7 before BC hosts Rhode Island the next day.

The Eagles then travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to face Wake Forest on April 10 before hosting four-straight games – a conference series vs. Virginia on April 17 and then an April 21 match up against Bryant. The next day, BC will take on Harvard in Cambridge before traveling to Duke for its last away series of the year.

Boston College closes the season with an 11-game home stand that will feature some of the best talent in the country. The stand begins on April 28 and 29 against Quinnipiac and Dartmouth, respectively. On May 1, No. 18 Miami comes to town for a three-game series. After a pair of games vs. LeMoyne and then a tilt with Connecticut, the Eagles will host No. 2 North Carolina in the final three games of the season. The Tar Heels reached the College World Series semifinal in 2008 and finished with a 54-14 record.

The ACC Championship is scheduled for May 20-23 in Durham, N.C. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
