TULSA – Oral Roberts’ head baseball coach Rob Walton announced the 2009 schedule on Friday. The 54-game slate features 28 home contests and includes 13 games against NCAA tournament teams from last season and seven games against Super Regional squads.

“We have a really young and new club this season, and the schedule will test us and put us in the fire early,” said Walton. “We’ll make some mistakes, but we’ll have a chance to rectify it and we’ll be better because of that.”

The Golden Eagles return 18 letterwinners from last year’s team that posted a 48-14 overall mark and captured their 11th consecutive conference title and NCAA Regional appearance.

ORU opens the season on Feb. 20 with a six-game homestand against Western Michigan and UT-San Antonio.

The Golden Eagles hit the road for the Rice Tournament in Houston, Texas, opening with Notre Dame on March 6, and following with contests against Washington State (March 7) and last season’s College World Series participant Rice (March 8).

ORU remains in Texas for a three-game series against NCAA participant Dallas Baptist on March 12-14, and wraps up the nine-game road trip at perennial power Cal State Fullerton on March 19-21.

ORU travels to Wichita State for the first of three meetings with the Shockers on March 24, and remains on the road at Missouri State for one game on March 27 before the Bears come back to Tulsa for two contests on March 28 and 29.

The Golden Eagles compete in a mid-week contest at Texas before beginning a 15-game homestand against Summit League members IPFW, South Dakota State and Centenary, and non-conference opponents UT-Arlington (April 7), Arkansas-Little Rock (April 14) and Arkansas (April 21).

The first conference road tilt comes at North Dakota State on April 24-26, before competing at Wichita State in the second meeting between the two squads on April 29.

ORU hosts the final home conference contests on May 1-3 against Southern Utah, and plays the final game at Wichita State (May 5) before traveling to Rochester, Mich., for a four-game series with Oakland on May 8-10.

The Golden Eagles wrap up the non-conference slate with a mid-week game at Arkansas (May 12) and end the regular season in the Summit League at Western Illinois on May 15-17. ORU hosts the Summit League Tournament at J.L. Johnson Stadium on May 21-23.
