GREELEY, Colo. – During the most recent National Letter of Intent signing period, the University of Northern Colorado baseball team inked three high school standouts. Harrison Lambert, Mark Shannon and Tyler Wallace will all join the Bears for the fall of 2009.

“All three of these players are very versatile,” said assistant coach Ryan Strain. “They can all play multiple positions, which was one of the main reasons we recruited all of them.”

Harrison Lambert, 1B/3B/C, Olathe, Kan. (Olathe Northwest)

Lambert is a multi-dimensional player, helping lead Olathe Northwest in 2008. He hit .355 with a .583 slugging percentage. He was a first-team All-Sunflower League, All-Olathe News and All-Sun Country selection in his junior year. He is the fourth Division I player to come out of Olathe Northwest in the six years the school has been open. He has the ability to play first base, third base or catch.

“We expect Lambert to have a big impact,” said Strain. “He is extremely versatile, which gives him a chance to get on the field immediately. With the ability to play both corners and catch, he looks to come in and play extensively as a freshman.”

Mark Shannon, LHP/OF, Littleton, Colo. (Chatfield)

Shannon was named the Chatfield Male Athlete of the Year as a junior after earning First-Team All-Conference, All-State and Academic All-State honors. He helped lead the Chargers to the state semi-finals as a junior. He has also played football and basketball in high school and is a three-year selection to the honor roll. He sports a career ERA of under 2.00 as well as a batting average around .450.

“Shannon is another versatile player who gives himself a chance to get on the field immediately,” said Strain. “We are excited to have the quality players from Colorado stay in-state and Mark is definitely one of those players, along with Wallace.”

Tyler Wallace, 1B/3B/RHP, Eaton, Colo. (Eaton)

Wallace was named the 3A Player of the Year in Colorado, helping Eaton to the state championship title. He hit .638 for the highest batting average at all levels Class 3A and above, led the state with 12 home runs and 57 RBI and had the top slugging percentage at 1.300. He established several Eaton HS records, including batting average, RBI, hits, total bases and slugging percentage as well as tying the home run record as a junior.

“Wallace brings the most offensive impact of the three signees,” stated Strain. “We are excited to have signed a local talent the likes of Tyler and we hope to continue to bring in the level of talent he will bring. He is a good offensive player who also has the ability to help us on the mound.”
