South Carolina Baseball Announces 2008 Signing Class

The University of South Carolina baseball program has announced the signing of 12 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period. The class includes five players from the South Carolina Diamond Devils AAU squad that won a pair of national championships this summer as well as the top rated high school players out of the states of North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. It consists of 10 high school players as well as two junior college standouts.

“Coach Holbrook and Coach Calvi have assembled a very talented class for the 2010 team,” said head coach Ray Tanner. “We have addressed our needs with players that fit into our program and are capable of making an immediate impact.” FULL STORY

Texas A&M Corpus Christi BASEBALL ADDS NINE PLAYERS IN EARLY PERIOD

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball coach Scott Malone has announced the additions of nine players to his program during the early signing period.

“We are excited to add nine new members to the Islander baseball program,” said Malone. “The best complement that I can give this group is that as much fun as they are to watch on the field, they are an even stronger group off the field. These future Islanders will continue to take this program to higher levels.”

Malone gave much of the credit to his recruiting coordinator Chris Ramirez for the success of the Islander class. FULL STORY

UC-Irvine Sign 10 to National Letters of Intent

The UC Irvine Baseball program has inked 10 student-athletes to national letters of intent in the early signing period as announced by head coach Mike Gillespie. The group is comprised of eight prep players and two junior college position players.

“Our recruiting class for ’09 is outstanding and we’re particularly pleased that we successfully addressed our priority needs with exceptional players,” said Gillespie.

“With a great emphasis on pitching we hit the jackpot with two premier left-handers in Beau Wright and Paul Strong, along with accomplished right-handers Kyle Hooper, Evan Brock, and Thomas Emanule. Each of these five pitchers is advanced and prepared to pitch in key roles at UCI as early as their freshman year,” said Gillespie. FULL STORY

ULM baseball head coach Jeff Schexnaider built on his already outstanding recruiting class with the signing of three additional student-athletes on Monday morning. The Warhawks have now signed eight of the top high school and junior college players in the South.

RHP/UTL Taylor Abdalla of Loranger, La., (Loranger HS); RHP Wil Browning of Kosciusko, Miss., (Holmes CC) and RHP Stefen Comeaux of Breaux Bridge, La., (LSU-Eunice) all signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Warhawks beginning with the 2010 season. FULL STORY

MSU Caps Fall Baseball Recruiting With Two JUCO Signees

Mississippi State put the finishing touches on its 2008-09 fall baseball recruiting campaign Tuesday with the announced signing of a pair of standouts from the junior college ranks in Texas and Kansas.

Signing national letters of intent with the Diamond Dogs are outfielder Runey Davis from Georgetown, Texas, a freshman at Howard (Texas) College, and Tim Statz from St. Louis, Mo., a sophomore left-handed pitcher at Hutchinson (Kans.) Community College.

The addition of the duo brings to 14 the number of Mississippi State baseball signees during the week-long early signing period, which ends November 19. FULL STORY

Loyola Maramount Sign Three to National Letters of Intent

LMU baseball signed a trio of standout athletes during November’s early signing period, Head Coach Jason Gill announced earlier this week. Bryan Berglund (RHP, Royal High School), Matt Lowenstein (SS/OF, Chino Hills High School) and Joel Licon (INF, Diamond Ranch High School) each signed National Letters of Intent to join the Lions in the fall of 2009.

“We are very excited about this year’s class,” Gill said. “Our coaching staff has compiled a group of players that I feel can have an immediate impact on the squad as freshmen next year. When considering the talent that already exists within our program, this year and the years to come look very bright for LMU baseball.” FULL STORY

Florida Baseball Announces 2008 Early Signing Class

Nine pitchers and seven position players highlight the 2008-09 recruiting class for the University of Florida baseball program. Head coach Kevin O’Sullivan announced Wednesday that 16 student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent and will play baseball for the Gators beginning in the 2010 season. Fifteen of the 16 individuals hail from the state of Florida.

“We are really excited about this signing class that our coaching staff has put together,” said O’Sullivan. “We feel like this class will make an immediate impact and help us get back to Omaha. This class helps address our needs since we will be losing quite a few players after this year.” FULL STORY
