The CBB continues our countdown to the 2009 College Baseball season with our Top 50 players to watch. We will be providing one player each day (Monday-Saturday) until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with junior outfielder Kyle Jensen from Saint Mary’s in California. He is a 6-4 230 pound left handed outfielder from Stockton California and St. Mary’s High School.

Jensen came to Saint Mary’s originally as a left handed pitcher but has developed into the top hitter on the Gaels roster. During the 2007 campaign and Jensen’s freshman season saw him play in 41 games with 39 starts. He was able to have a .279 average with 13 runs scored and 18 RBI. He also saw time on the mound making four appearances with a 6.75 ERA.

Kyle was able to have a breakout season in 2008 with a .421 average with 13 homers and 52 RBI in 52 games. He was even better in West Coast Conference action where he hit .461 with five homers and 27 RBI in only 21 conference games. Jensen has also been able to show off some solid speed by swiping 10 bases last season in 16 attempts. The West Coast Conference honored him by selecting him to the 2008 WCC All-Conference team.

He spent the summer of 2008 with the Mat-Su Miners of the Alaskan Baseball League. He played in 37 games hitting .265 with four homers and driving in 12 runs. He has shown a knack for working walks by having 23 on the summer campaign. Baseball America named Jensen as the fourth best prospect in the Alaskan League after the season was over.

We think Jensen will continue to be a force at the plate for the Gaels and be drafted in one of the first couple of rounds in the 2009 MLB Draft.
