With today being November 12th, We enter the first step for potential college baseball athletes in deciding on where they will play for the next 3-4 years. The next step will be to see where they get drafted in the MLB Draft in June and the final step will be to see if they make it to campus in September.

Georgia Tech have signed three prep standouts to NLI’s

Two prep All-Americans highlight a list of three high school standouts that have already signed National Letters of Intent to play baseball at Georgia Tech beginning next fall, head coach Danny Hall announced Wednesday.

The recruiting class, assembled under the direction of assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Bryan Prince along with Hall and pitching coach Tom Kinkelaar, thus far includes two players that are rated among the top-10 prospects from their respective states and a total of two pitchers and a catcher. Baylor signs eight student-athletes, seven from Texas.

Baylor baseball head coach Steve Smith announced the signing of eight student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Wednesday. The class is comprised entirely of current high school athletes, seven of whom are from Texas. The Bears signed four infielders, one outfielder and three left-handed pitchers.

“We are really pleased to be able to announce this class,” Smith said. “This is a very good group of players, and we feel like this group will go a long way toward meeting our needs in the next year. The position players – particularly the infielders – are all athletic and versatile enough to play anywhere on the field. Obviously, we focused on left-handed pitching, and we’re very pleased with what we were able to get in that area.”

Louisville Baseball Announces Three Signees

University of Louisville baseball head coach Dan McDonnell announced the signing of outfielder Jarred Clarkson (Shelbyville, Ky.), shortstop Kyle Grieshaber (Chesterfield, Mo.) and right-handed pitcher Matthew Koch (Cherokee, Iowa) to National Letters-of-Intent on Wednesday during the first day of the November signing period.

The trio is the first group of signees in the Cards’ 2009 recruiting class with the remaining signees to be announced later this week. All three of Wednesday’s signees, as well as the rest of the Cards’ 2009 recruiting class, will be on campus next fall and eligible to compete in the spring of 2010.

“This is a complete recruiting class with balance across the board,” McDonnell said. “Coach Lemonis and Coach Williams did an outstanding job in assembling a group that has speed, power, skill and experience. We have three guys ranked No. 1 in their state respectively, two top 100 players and two potential junior college All-Americans.” FULL STORY

Michigan Lands Six In-State Recruits in Early Signing Period

University of Michigan head baseball coach Rich Maloney announced today (Wednesday, Nov. 12) the signing of six players to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period.

The six recruits, all from the state of Michigan, include CF Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child HS), RHP Kyle Clark (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS), IF Derek Dennis (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS), IF Daniel Fields (Detroit, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit HS), RHP Tyler Higgins (Shepherd, Mich./Mt. Pleasant HS) and 1B Cameron Luther (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph HS).

“I’m very excited about this group of early signees, especially since all six are from Michigan,” said Maloney. “This class is filled with student-athletes that have had a great deal of success in the classroom and on the field. FULL STORY

Memphis sign six in early period

The Blue Raider baseball program has signed six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period as announced by head coach Steve Peterson on Wednesday.

The signing class includes four right-handed pitchers, Hunter Adkins of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Daniel Palo of Germantown, Tenn., and Brandon Hall of Hendersonville, Tenn. The Blue Raiders have also signed a two-way player in Jonathan Sisco of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and two position players, Ryan Ford and Jordan Rorex both of Knoxville, Tenn.

“Coach McGuire and Coach McLaury just really isolated on this group and we knew we really had to have a strong recruiting class on the mound. We wanted to pretty much stay with freshmen coming in because we have such a large junior class,” Peterson said. “So it just really worked out and I think we are bringing in four good arms and they are all really good athletes. Ford and Rorex will help us with position players so I think on paper it looks good.” FULL STORY

Mississippi State Ink Mississippi Trio To Open Early Signing Period

A trio of Mississippi high school standouts have become the first three baseball signees for Mississippi State University on the opening day of the week-long November signing period for baseball.

Inking with Mississippi State are first baseball Ethan Bright of Batesville, Miss. (South Panola High School), catcher Kolby Byrd of Bogue Chitto, Miss. (Brookhaven Academy) and pitcher Chris Stratton of Tupelo, Miss. (Tupelo High School).

“I’m really pleased with the players we are signing this fall,” said first-year Bulldog skipper John Cohen. “We got a late start in the recruiting game this year, but Coach (Butch) Thompson and Coach (Lane) Burroughs closed the gap quickly. One of our goals with recruiting this year is to raise the level of athleticism, and we feel like we’ve done well in that area.” FULL STORY

TCU baseball inks eight for 2010

TCU Baseball Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle announced the signing of eight athletes to National Letters of Intent. Six of the eight signees hail from the state of Texas. The class features five high school players and three junior college transfers.

Four of the eight signees hail from the Houston-area and will be freshmen next year in Matt Purke (LHP, Spring/Klein High School), Jarred Fancher (UT, Katy/Katy High), Kyle Von Tungeln (OF, Sugar Land/Kempner) and Tyler Duffie (RHP, Houston/Lamar High). Also an incoming freshman, Josh Elander (C, Round Rock/Round Rock High) rounds out the high school signees for the Frogs.

“Coach Todd Whitting and Coach Randy Mazey did a good job of filling our needs with their hard work over the summer and fall,” raved Schlossnagle. “We will lose a lot of talented players to graduation after this year so the position players that we have signed will really have to be prepared to step in and compete for jobs and perform at a very high level. Texas inks seven on first day of early signing

University of Texas Baseball received National Letters of Intent from seven of the top high school student-athletes in the nation on the first day of the early signing period head coach Augie Garrido announced on Wednesday.

“Coach (Tommy) Harmon year-in and year-out proves he can bring in the top recruits in the country,” Garrido said. “This class falls in line with that history. He has brought in players that will make us a national contender in 2010. Coach Harmon always anticipates where we will need talent in the future and fills in that talent.”

The group, which was secured by UT’s associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Tommy Harmon, includes three of the top 75 high school prospects in America according to Baseball America. The Longhorns’ recruits ranked among the top 75 include C Jonathan Walsh (No. 34) from Coppell (Texas) HS, LHP/1B Colton Cain (No. 44) from Waxahachie (Texas) HS and RHP Keifer Nuncio (No. 75) from Katy (Texas) HS. Samford Announces Three Signees

The Samford baseball staff has announced the initial three signees of the early signing period for the 2009 signing class. Samford has added infielder Tommy Corbin (Woodward Academy, Atlanta, Ga.), left-handed pitcher Lex Rutledge (Tupelo High School, Tupelo, Miss.), and left-handed pitcher Sean Handlan (South Gwinnett High School, Snellville, Ga.).

The current recruiting class is unlike any other led by Head Coach Casey Dunn in terms of the number of players. The youth of the current bulldog roster is dictating the size of the 2009 class. FULL STORY

ULM Baseball Opens Early Signing Period with Three Signees

hree student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the ULM baseball program beginning with the 2010 season, head coach Jeff Schexnaider announced Wednesday afternoon. Baseball’s early signing period officially began Wednesday morning and runs through next Wednesday.

The three signees are RHP Luke Briley of Natchitoches, La., (Mississippi Gulf Coast CC); SS Judd Edwards of Oxford, Ala., (Oxford HS) and RHP Drew Grainer of Thibodaux, La., (Mississippi Gulf Coast CC).

“We are really excited about signing these three guys as the beginning of our class for this upcoming year,” Schexnaider said. “They are all good student-athletes and will represent our community and ULM with class.” FULL STORY

Illini Sign 6 to Letters of Intent

Illinois coach Dan Hartleb announced the signing of six student-athletes to national letters of intent Wednesday. At this point, the 2009 signing class is composed of Christian Cummins of Harrisburg, Ill., Davis Hendrickson, of Macomb, Ill., Brandon Hohl, of Mokena, Ill., Kevin Johnson, of Midlothian, Ill., Matt Milroy, of Batavia, Ill., and Seth Schwindenhammer of Bartonville, Ill.

“Our staff is extremely excited about the quality of this signing class,” Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb said. “We have added six players who are as athletic as we have had in any single class. All of these players have demonstrated that they are quality students, quality people and in the top echelon of baseball players in the Midwest. On paper, this is an extremely balanced class from an offensive, defensive and pitching standpoint. This group of student-athletes has shown that they have the ability to compete at the national level, as they have all been extremely successful and have competed for championships with high school and summer programs. The University of Northern Iowa Baseball Signs Three for 2010

he University of Northern Iowa baseball team has added four players to its roster for 2009-2010, UNI head coach Rick Heller announced. Jordan Adams from Mason City, Iowa, Mike Eckhart from Boone, Iowa and Cody Strang from Solon, Iowa have all signed to play for the Panthers in next year.

“We don’t lose many players off next year’s team, so we were able to be very selective with this class,” Heller said. “Being able to sign three of the best players in the state is exactly what we needed. This is a very good class of position players. Marty Sutherland did an awesome job this past year as our recruiting coordinator. His hard work is greatly appreciated. We will sign a couple more players in the spring, but feel we are in a fantastic situation for fall of 2009.” FULL STORY
