OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton baseball program released its 2009 schedule Tuesday. The schedule features 11 games at Rosenblatt Stadium, and 17 of the 55 regular season games will come against 2008 NCAA Tournament qualifiers.

The Bluejays will open the 2009 season on the road, as it travels to five states to play 13 games over a 19-day period. Creighton opens at Sam Houston State for four games from Feb. 20-22, before going to Phoenix, Ariz., for the Phoenix Classic from Feb. 27-29. At the Classic, the Bluejays will play Dayton, Gonzaga and Notre Dame. After a Big 12 matchup against Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., on March 3, Creighton will go to Conway, S.C., to play in the Coastal Carolina Tournament from March 6-8. The team will take a day off before finishing its road trip with back-to-back games against Coastal Carolina and UNC-Wilimington on March 10-11.

CU Sports Complex will open its gates on March 13-15 for a three-game homestand against South Dakota State.

After opening the conference schedule in Terre Haute, Ind., against Indiana State from March 20-22, Creighton will come home for a six-game homestand, featuring games against North Dakota, Southern Illinois and Kansas State from March 24-April 1. The game against Kansas State is the first of 11 this season to be played at Rosenblatt Stadium.

The Bluejays’ first game against Nebraska on April 7 comes after a three-game road trip to conference foe Evansville, April 3-5. The game against the Huskers, will be the first of three on the season, and the only one played in Lincoln.

Creighton’s longest homestand of the season starts April 10 and will continue through April 26. The stretch will feature 13 games and six different teams spanning four different conferences. Northern Iowa opens the span on April 10-12. Kansas then comes to Rosenblatt for a midweek game on April 14, followed by a doubleheader the following day against Air Force, also at Rosenblatt. Illinois-Chicago comes calling April 17-19, with the middle game on April 18, played at Rosenblatt. The game will start a three out of four stretch of games played at the home of the College World Series, as Nebraska makes its first trip to Omaha on April 21 at Rosenblatt, followed by Bradley on April 24, as it plays the first of a three-game series at the stadium.

Following the homestand, the Jays will take to the road for a five game trip, with games against South Dakota State, Iowa and Illinois State from April 28-May 3.

Upon coming home, Creighton finishes the home portion of its MVC schedule May 8-10 with games against Missouri State. The middle game against the Bears on May 9 will be held at Rosenblatt.

Creighton’s final game of the year against Nebraska will take place on May 12 at Rosenblatt, as the Huskers will be the home team on the scoreboard for the contest.

The Bluejays wrap up their regular season with a three-game roadtrip to 2008 MVC champion Wichita State from May 14-16. It will be the first of two consecutive weeks, Creighton will be in Wichita, as the 2009 State Farm MVC Baseball Tournament is held in Wichita, Kan from May 20-23.

This year’s College World Series will take place June 13-23/24 for the 60th straight season at Rosenblatt Stadium.
