The CBB continues our countdown to the 2009 College Baseball season with our Top 50 players to watch. We will be providing one player each day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 49 Robert Stock of Southern California. He is a 6-1, 190 pound junior catcher out of Agoura High School and from Westlake Village, California.

In 2007, Stock had a .299 batting average with four homers and 22 RBI in 54 games. Stock was outstanding behind the plate where he threw out 22 runners out of 35 attempted which means he threw out 61.4 percent of baserunners. Stock has played two summers with the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod League where he has struggled. This past summer, he hit .270 with only five extra base hits in 35 games. In 2007, Stock batted .228 with five doubles, four homers, and 20 RBI in 123 at bats.

Stock has seen some limited innings on the mound during his first two campaigns with the Trojans serving as a closer. The 2007 season saw him appear in 14 games with a 2-2 record with two saves and an ERA of 4.55. Last year, he was able to improve slightly with record of 1-1 including three saves with an ERA of 3.60.

Stock made the interesting decision to leave school early in the winter of 2007 to enroll at Southern Cal as he was rated as one of the top players in the 2007 MLB Draft. He was never able to be selected with his early enrollment with the Trojans program. He struggled mightily in his freshmen season with a .253 average in forty five games but was able to rebound with a respectable sophomore season. Stock has all the tools to be a great player but things have not come completely together. We think that this will be the year that the game slows down for Stock and he can finally live up to his lofty expectations that some publications gave him in high school.

His STOCK is down.
BOOOOO!
sorry about that.

Robert Stock will have to have a MONSTER spring to be a high round pick…he just hasn’t produced enough in college. I would drop him to about round 6 right now…though he has the potential to change that.

It is interesting to see what happens with him. His drop has been substantial during his college days but he has the talent.
