It was a great Fall afternoon to take in the last scrimmage of the fall season between Texas State and Texas. Sophomore Cole Green got the start for Texas while Junior Michael Russo got the start for Texas State. Cole gave up a two out single to Paul Goldschmidt but was stranded on first.

In the Bottom of the First, Texas was able to scratch a run across on a single by Tucker and than Torres followed that up with a single and moved over to 2nd on the throwing error which brought in home Tucker.

Texas scored another run in the 2nd to take a 2-0 lead going into the 4th. Taylor Jungmann took over in the 3rd inning with the Bobcats getting to him in the 4th with consecutive singles by Atwwod and Goldschmidt and then they were moved over to 2nd and 3rd on a sacrifice bunt. The Bobcats were able to score on another single by Theriot as Atwood scored and Goldschmidt moved over to 3rd. Goldschmidt scored on a fielders choice to tie the score at 2.

In the 5th, Texas State was able to get to Ruffin on a solo homer by Spencer Dennis, that went out to the deepest part of the ball park over the 405 sign in LCF. The Bobcats were able to score another run on a couple of singles to make the score 4-2. The Bobcats looked to be in control headed into the bottom of the 5th but that is when the wheels came off the pitching staff. Texas was able to score 5 runs, 3 of them coming off a home run by Kevin Keyes. The homer made the score 7-4 in favor of the Longhorns.

Texas continued to scratch across runs in the following innings with a single run in the the 7th, two in the 10th and one more the 12th to close out the scoring 10-4.

Up next for Texas will be on February 20th against Illinois-Chicago. Texas State will also kick off the 2009 campaign on the same date but they have not released their schedule as of yet.
