Louisiana Tech is nearly halfway through with its annual Fall World Series, and the Blue Team so far has found the winning edge in the intrasquad scrimmages.

Blue has defeated the White Team in all three games played by finals scores of 12-11, 14-9 and 6-3.

Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux, however, is not cheering for either side and only wants to see his players perform as best they can. So far, the only real thing he would rather see changed is the amount of walks his pitchers are giving up: in three games a total of 47 walks have been given up between the two teams.

“We’ve got some young, energetic kids, and we have to keep putting them out there,” Simoneaux said. “One day we’ll go out there and look really good, but the next day we’ll struggle. We just have to stay with the fundamentals and teach these guys to get in the strike zone and make routine plays and make the other team earn their runs.”

Junior Chris Juneau so far is having the best hitting of the Fall World Series; the junior from Alexandria, La., is batting .615 with four homeruns and eight RBI for the Blue Team. On the white team, senior Kevin Winn is batting .500 with five RBI.

On the mound for Blue, freshman Benn Fairbanks has a 3.38 ERA in 5.1 innings pitched with three strikeouts, while freshman Kyle Roliard has a 2.08 ERA with 4.1 innings pitched with two strikeouts.

“Overall, I think our work ethic is very good,” Simoneaux said. “I think we’re capable of putting together a pretty good lineup to score some runs. Our youth comes on that pitcher’s mound, and we only have five guys that logged any innings last year. We have a lot of guys that are going to hit the rubber and step up and do a good job for us.”

Tech returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. for game four of the Fall World Series. Admission is free.
