Stewart’s three-run double leads Purple comeback win in game one
Senior catcher Cooper Stewart’s three-run double highlighted a six-run sixth inning as the Purple team rallied for a 9-6 win in the opening game of the Western Illinois Purple & Gold World Series at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium.
Trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the sixth, Stewart’s blast into the left-center gap opened up what had been a close game. Senior outfielder Kenny Price, senior first baseman Tyler Metcalf, junior second baseman Dan Johnson, and freshman outfielder Tom Lilja each had RBI hits for the Purple squad. Senior outfielder Jared Wolf scored twice and added a stolen base.

Black Forces Game Seven
The Wichita State Black squad forced a game seven in the Fall World Series with a 7-2 win in game six.
Mitch Caster went 4-for-4 with two RBI for the Black, while Clint McKeever went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Black starter Brian Flynn earned the win going six innings and giving up two runs on three hits while striking out five.
Will Baez went 2-for-5 for the Gold, while Gold starter Dalton Banwart took the loss going five innings and giving up seven runs on eight hits. FULL STORY
Bailey Homer Leads Reds to 5-4 Win
Adam Bailey crushed a home run to straight-away centerfield, breaking a four-all tie and leading the Reds to a 5-4 win over the Whites in the 2008 Red/White Series held at Sherman Field Wednesday afternoon
Bailey, a junior right fielder from Scottsdale, Ariz., hammered the solo home run with two outs off Erik Bird to cap a 2-for-5, 3 RBI afternoon.
“He swings a strong stick,” Nebraska coach Mike Anderson said. “He’s been doing that most of the fall, which is a great thing. His level of competitiveness is good and his strength is good.”
That was enough for sophomore Casey Hauptmann, who fanned three over two innings of shutout relief for the win.
Bailey knocked in the first run of the day with a groundout to the shortstop to score D.J. Belfonte, who had advance from first to third on a bunt by Kale Kiser one batter earlier, in the bottom of the first inning. FULL STORY
