The University of Missouri has signed Head Baseball Coach Tim Jamieson to a contract extension that will keep Jamieson at Mizzou through the 2013 season, as announced Tuesday by Director of Athletics Mike Alden. Jamieson will enter his 15th season as the Tigers’ head coach next spring with a record of 480-329-2. He needs just two victories to move into second place on the all-time wins list at Mizzou, passing former coach John “Hi” Simmons.

“We continue to be very pleased with Coach Jamieson’s leadership of our baseball program,” Alden said. “He truly focuses our team on our core values of academic excellence, social responsibility and competitive excellence.”

Under Jamieson, the Tigers have advanced to the NCAA Tournament seven times, including each of the last six years. Mizzou is one of just 16 programs that have qualified for the postseason in each of the last six seasons and is one of just two Big 12 teams that can make the claim. In 2006, Jamieson led the Tigers to their first NCAA Regional title, winning the Malibu Regional as a four-seed.

In 2007, Missouri hosted an NCAA Regional at Taylor Stadium for the first time in school history. That year, Jamieson was named the Big 12 Co-Coach of the Year. It was his second Conference Coach of the Year award, as he was named the Big Eight Coach of the Year in 1996 in his second campaign as the Tigers’ skipper. MU won the Big Eight regular season championship that year.

“I would like to thank the administration for all of the support it has shown to me and to our program,” Jamieson said. “With the six-straight trips to the postseason that we’ve made, the stadium renovations that are in the works and the growing fan support, it is an exciting time to be at Mizzou. Each season presents exciting challenges and I look forward to the continued growth of our baseball program.”

Jamieson’s team has won at least 30 games in 12 of the last 13 years, including two 40-win seasons. In 2007, Jamieson amassed a career-best 42 victories.

“We are excited about the direction of our baseball team,” Mizzou Associate Athletic Director Tim Hickman said. “Six-straight NCAA appearances and multiple first round draft picks are an indication of the consistency and excellence that Coach Jamieson is building in our program. We are proud to have him as our Head Baseball Coach.”

Six Tigers have earned All-American honors and 46 players have been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft since Jamieson took over in 1996, including first-round draft picks Max Scherzer (2006) and Aaron Crow (2008). In addition to the on-field accomplishments, 72 of Jamieson’s players have earned Academic All-Conference recognition and six have been named Academic All-Americans.

With the retirement of Texas Tech’s Larry Hayes last summer, Jamieson and Baylor Coach Steve Smith are now the longest tenured coaches in the Big 12 Conference, each entering their 15th year as head coach of their respective programs.
