STILLWATER, Okla. — Ten NCAA Tournament teams from 2008 highlight Oklahoma State’s 2009 baseball schedule, which was released today.

“It’s a challenging schedule, and we’re going to face some great competition that will really test us,” said OSU head coach Frank Anderson, who is entering his sixth season with the Cowboys. “We’ve worked hard to upgrade our schedule over the years, and this schedule will be one of the toughest we’ve had. This is also a schedule that should allow us to do well in the RPI.”

The Cowboys will play 29 home games at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium, including the season opener Feb. 20 against BYU. Highlighting the non-conference portion of the home schedule is a pair of games against perennial power Cal State-Fullerton. OSU will face the Titans on March 13 and 14.

OSU also has several attractive non-conference road outings. The Cowboys will travel to Greenville, N.C., Feb. 26-March 1, to compete in the Keith LeClair Classic hosted by East Carolina. After a midweek game against ECU, Anderson’s club will take on College of Charleston, play a second game against ECU and then battle St. John’s. Both ECU and St. John’s were NCAA Tournament teams in 2007.

Following the trip to North Carolina, the Cowboys will travel to the West Coast to take part in the Palm Springs Baseball Invitational in Palm Springs, Calif., on March 5-8. While in Palm Springs, OSU will face UC-Riverside, Oregon State, San Francisco and Gonzaga. For more information on this tournament, fans can go to www.palmspringspowerbaseball.com/tournaments.html.

After the trip to Palm Springs, the Cowboys’ road trip will then take them to Tucson, Ariz., where they’ll take on Arizona, which advanced to an NCAA Super Regional last season, in a pair of mid-week contests on March 10 and 11.

In Big 12 Conference action, Anderson’s club will play host to Missouri, Texas, Baylor and Kansas State. The Tigers and Longhorns were both NCAA Tournament teams a year ago.

The Cowboys open Big 12 Conference play March 20 when they travel to Lincoln, Neb., to take on Nebraska. They also have conference road tests at Kansas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Another highlight on the schedule is the annual Bedlam series against Oklahoma. Considered one of the top college baseball rivalries in the nation, the Cowboys and Sooners will open their series May 8 at Drillers Stadium in Tulsa, Okla. The series then shifts to Oklahoma City’s AT&T Bricktown Ballpark for the final two games.

The Big 12 Baseball Championships will be held at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark May 20-25, while NCAA Regionals get underway on May 29. The College World Series begins play on June 12 in Omaha, Neb.
