Huskers Host Red/White Series; Head to Iowa

The Nebraska baseball program closes the fall portion of its workouts next week with three games, including the Huskers’ first-ever fall road trip.

Nebraska will conduct its annual Red-White Series on Tuesday, Oct. 14, and Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Sherman Field (225 West South Street). Tuesday’s first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with Wednesday’s game slated for a 3:05 p.m. first pitch. The Huskers will then travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in the fall finale on Friday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m. There is no admission charge for any of the three games next week.

Being away from Hawks Field has been nothing new to the Huskers this fall. They have conducted nearly all of their fall practices at Sherman Field following installation of a new grass surface last month. The two-week installation process went well, and the Huskers will be able to practice on the field when spring drills begin on Feb. 1, weather permitting. FULL STORY

Houston Baseball to Hold Scrimmage Saturday

The University of Houston baseball team will hold a fall scrimmage Saturday at Cougar Field as part of the team’s month-long fall practice schedule.

The Cougars will play Alvin Community College in the scrimmage slated to begin at noon and will last approximately 14 innings. The team will hold batting practice at 10 a.m. prior to the game.

The practice and scrimmage are open to fans.

After practicing for over a week and holding multiple intrasquad scrimmages, the Cougars are looking forward to facing a different opponent Saturday.

“It’s always a good thing to compete in the fall,” head coach Rayner Noble say. “After a while you kind of get stale playing each other, which I am sure will happen, but at least we get to sprinkle in a couple of opponents and break up the monotony of playing against ourselves so much.” FULL STORY
