Louisiana-Lafayette Baseball Schedule For 2009 is Set

A season-opening, four-game series at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field with Nebraska, 26 total home games and meetings with nine teams which qualified for the 2008 NCAA Tournament highlight Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team’s 2009 schedule which was announced Thursday by head coach Tony Robichaux.

The Ragin’ Cajuns will play 21 games against NCAA Tournament teams from last season. Included are midweek matchups with LSU and Rice, participants in the 2008 World Series, and three-game road series at Southern Mississippi and East Carolina.

An even balance between home and away games is set for the first half of the season with Louisiana hosting 15 out of the 28 games. The last four weeks of the season will test the Cajuns as 12 of the final 16 games will be on the road.

Robichaux’s 15th season at UL begins at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field Feb. 20-22 with the four-game series against Nebraska. It’s the Cornhuskers first trip to Lafayette since participating in the 2001 Mardi Gras Ball Classsic. FULL STORY

UNCG unveils 2009 baseball schedule

UNC Greensboro baseball head coach Mike Gaski has released the 2009 schedule. The slate includes 56 regular-season games, with 35 of those taking place at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

First pitch of the 2009 season will take place at 4 p.m. on Feb. 20 when the Spartans host Kent State. UNCG and the Golden Flashes will play a three-game series that also includes game times on Feb. 21 (1 p.m.) and Feb. 22 (1 p.m). The Spartans open the road portion of their schedule on Feb. 25 when they head to Campbell. UNCG returns home for a three-game series with Princeton on Feb. 27-Mar. 1 and then welcomes La Salle on Mar. 2. The Spartans are at Duke on Mar. 4 before opening Southern Conference action with a three-game series at College of Charleston on Mar. 6-8. With the addition of Samford to the conference, the SoCon will play a 30-game slate for the first-time ever. The Mar. 6 date will be the earliest time a SoCon game has been played.

UNCG will begin a nine-game homestand, its longest of the season, on Mar. 11 as Old Dominion comes to Greensboro. Georgia Southern will be the first SoCon team to come to the UNCG Baseball Stadium in the 2009 season as the Eagles visit Mar. 13-15. The Spartans wrap up the homestand with a pair of games against Lafayette Mar. 17-18 and a three-game series with Albany Mar. 20-22. FULL STORY

Rutgers Baseball Unveils 2009 Schedule

Rutgers head baseball coach Fred Hill has announced the program’s 2009 schedule. The Scarlet Knights will face a challenging 56-game slate which features five participates in last season’s NCAA Championship.

“We have assembled another strong schedule for 2009,” said Hill. “The early-season portion will serve as a strong test for our club and help prepare us for a strong BIG EAST Conference. Our team will be challenged day in and day out.”

Continuing a long-standing tradition by Hill’s club, the Scarlet Knights will play a strong early-season schedule against several traditional baseball powerhouses down south as 22 of their first 23 games are away from Piscataway to open the 2009 campaign.

Rutgers will test itself right off the bat with a four-game series against 2008 College World Series participant Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. The Scarlet Knights and Hurricanes will open the three-day series with a single game Friday, Feb. 20 and play a double-header on Saturday, Feb. 21 before closing the four-game set on Sunday, Feb. 22. ECU Announces 2009 Baseball Schedule

Thirty-five home games at Clark-LeClair Stadium, including the Sixth-Annual Keith LeClair Classic, highlight the 2009 East Carolina baseball schedule announced Thursday afternoon by head baseball coach Billy Godwin.

Nineteen teams on this year’s docket recorded 30 or more wins a season ago with nine of them topping the 40-win plateau; 11 schools earned a bid to participate in the NCAA Regional in 2008 with a pair making it to the College World Series, while four finished ranked in the Baseball America and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 polls.

The Pirates will open the 2009 campaign on Friday, Feb. 20 against Monmouth in a three-game tilt and will stay home for their next five games, which includes a midweek match-up with Oklahoma State (Feb. 26), the LeClair Classic (Feb. 27-Mar. 1) and Old Dominion (Mar. 3).

Conference USA play opens March 20 for the Pirates when they welcome league foe UCF to town for a three-game series. Other C-USA schools making the trek to Greenville in 2009 include 2008 College World Series participant and C-USA regular season champion Rice (Apr. 10-12), Southern Miss (Apr. 24-26) and Memphis (May 14-16).
