Mendonca Finally Gets His Hands on MVP Trophy

Tommy Mendonca was named the 2008 CWS MVP in June.

Fresno State third baseman Tommy Mendonca earned the title of College World Series Most Valuable Player after the conclusion of the 2008 tournament. Mendonca hit four homeruns and made plays at third base that made the crowd ooh and ahh.

“It is an honor to get this trophy and it could have been given to anyone on the team,” said Mendonca. “I made a few good plays, hit some homeruns. Steve Detwiler or Justin Wilson deserves it too.”

After being awarded MVP, Mendonca was given the trophy, a miniature replica of the statue outside Rosenblatt Stadium. Mendonca was able to hold it and take pictures with the trophy before it was whisked away to send to Fresno.

While Mendonca was overseas playing with Team USA, his MVP trophy arrived. But, the trophy came to town in several pieces. The trophy was sent back while Mendonca was playing with Team USA. FULL STORY
