University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball coach Scott Doffek has made the 2009 schedule available to the general public. The schedule, which is still tentative at this time, again features a lengthy road stint (22 games) to begin the season, playing big-name teams like Arizona State and Michigan as the season begins. The home opener is scheduled for April 3rd against UIC.

“Once again we have put together a very challenging schedule,” Doffek said. “We will be playing some of the best this country has to offer. The goal here is, and has always been, to not only get to, but to win a regional. We want to take every chance we can to play at that level of competition.”

The Panthers, who finished second in the Horizon League Tournament last spring, will look for a return trip to the NCAA Tournament when they wrap up the 2009 season with a trip to Cleveland for the league tournament.

“Playing in the Horizon League has become increasingly more competitive in the past several years. Every program has raised the bar and it is great to see,” Doffek said. “We expect the league will be tough from top to bottom, with every weekend being filled with close games. We know the type of work and dedication it takes to compete at the national level
and that includes the Horizon League. We are all excited for the journey.”
