Hempstead, NY-Hofstra University Director of Athletics Jack Hayes today announced the appointment of Patrick Anderson to the position of head baseball coach. Anderson, the 13th coach in the program’s 71-year history, replaces Chris Dotolo, who resigned in June.

Anderson, who served as an assistant coach at Hofstra for three seasons from 1998 to 2001, has spent the last eight seasons as a minor league hitting and catching instructor with the Kansas City Royals Professional Baseball Club. Anderson served as a roving instructor at various levels of the organization – from rookie ball to Kansas City’s Triple A affiliate – working with high-level prospects that Kansas City touted as potential major league players. During his tenure with the Royal’s Anderson worked with many future major leaguer’s including Mike Sweeney, Chad Tracy, Gregg Zaun and Donnie Murphy.

“Patrick Anderson has extensive baseball experience at both the collegiate and professional levels,” said Hayes. “We are excited that he will be leading the Hofstra Baseball program.”

“I am excited to have the opportunity to take over a program that I am quite familiar with,” said Anderson. “Coming home and being able to coach at a school like Hofstra means a great deal to me. I am ecstatic to be a part of the Hofstra family once again.”

His work for the Royals also saw him serve as hitting coach for the Gulf Coast Royals (Rookie League) in 2001, the Class A Burlington (IA) Bees from 2002 to 2006, the Idaho Falls Chukars (Advanced Rookie League) in 2007 and the rookie affiliate Burlington (NC) Royals in 2008.

Anderson began his coaching career in 1996 at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, serving as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. After leaving Gannon in 1997 he began coaching at The Baseball Factory, an organization that evaluates and showcases potential collegiate and professional players, in Ellicott City, Maryland.

Anderson began his first Hofstra tenure in the fall of 1998, serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator under Head Coach Reginald Jackson. In 2000 Anderson served as hitting coach for the Orleans Cardinals of the prestigious Cape Cod Collegiate Summer League, building individual project plans for each player.

An individual instructor for the past seven years, Anderson has also worked for the Long Island Astros organization, serving as their Winter Fundamental Baseball Camp Director from 2003 to 2008. He also is a volunteer coach and coordinator for the Big Brothers/Challenger Baseball League.

Anderson’s experience is not only limited to coaching as he played professionally in the late 1990s for two independent league teams (Chillicothe Paints and Zanesville Greys) and was an all-star for both organizations.

A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, Anderson graduated in 1997 with a degree in physical education and a concentration in sports management from Mars Hill College in North Carolina. He is married to Hofstra Softball Associate Head Coach Larissa Anderson and resides in Levittown, New York.
