MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each Monday, k-statesports.com takes look at current and former Wildcats in collegiate summer leagues and in the professional ranks.

Coastal Plain League

Playing for the Fayetteville (N.C.) Swap Dogs, sophomores-to-be Carter Jurica and Jason King continue to rank among the team’s leading hitters… Jurica went 5-for-15 to improve his season average to .235 with four doubles and 14 RBI… He is also 8-for-10 in stolen base attempts… Against Florence on Sunday, Jurica was 2-for-3 with one walk and one run scored… King was 4-for-14 last week with one RBI and two runs scored… King’s average improved for the second-straight week as he is now the team’s second-leading hitter… On the season, the third baseman is hitting .269 with six doubles, two triples, one home run and 12 RBI… Against Thomasville on Friday, King drove in the Swap Dogs’ lone run in an 8-1 loss… The Swap Dogs, who finished the first half of the season second in the south division, are in fifth during the second half with a 7-13 record.

Jayhawk Baseball League

Thomas Rooke and Daniel Dellasega have each spent part of the summer playing for the Nevada (Mo.) Griffons… Rooke holds a 0-1 record and a 7.20 ERA in seven appearances, including four starts, but has not pitched in three weeks… In 18 games, Dellasega is hitting .291 with three doubles, one triple, one home run and six RBI… On Wednesday, the Dellasega went 2-for-4 in Nevada’s 3-2 victory over El Dorado… Senior-to-be Jordan Cruz joined the 26-14 Derby Twins halfway through the season after recovering from an injury sustained during K-State’s season… In 13 games played, Cruz is hitting .292 (14-for-48) with four doubles, five home runs and 14 RBI… Against Liberal on Tuesday, Cruz went 2-for-4 with one double, one home run and two RBI… He also went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI on Sunday against Dodge City

Texas Collegiate League

Playing for the TCL-leading McKinney Marshalls, who hold a 2.5-game lead with a 24-17 record, Justin Bloxom went 1-for-7 in just three games last week… Against Coppell on Tuesday, Bloxom went 0-for-2, but did record a pair of RBI on two sacrifice flies… On the season, Bloxom holds a .245 average with three doubles, six home runs and 21 RBI… He continues to lead the TCL with his six homers, two better than second place… Furthermore, his 21 RBI are tied for fourth in the league… Justin Murray, who was drafted by the Oakland Athletics but has yet to sign with the club, joined the East Texas PumpJacks on June 21… The Manhattan, Kan., native still holds a 0-1 with a 4.45 ERA and 27 strikeouts as he did not pitch last week… The PumpJacks are in third place in the TCL with a 20-22 record.

West Coast Collegiate Baseball League

Outfielder Dane Yelovich and pitcher A.J. Morris, playing for the 9-19 Moses Lake Pirates, were selected to the 2008 WCCBL All-Star Game and started for the East Team on Tuesday … Morris pitched the first inning, yielding one run on three hits… Yelovich went 0-for-2 in his only two plate appearances… Yelovich, a senior-to-be, went 1-for-10 in three games after the break, with his lone hit coming against Kelowna on Friday… For the season, Yelovich is hitting .265 with six doubles, 14 RBI and is 18-for-26 in stolen base attempts, which leads the league… Morris has not thrown since the All-Star Game… He is 1-1 on the year with a 2.31 ERA and 43 strikeouts… His 2.31 ERA ranks seventh in the WCCBL, while his 43 strikeouts are fourth in the league… Furthermore, he is holding opponents to a .188 average, which also ranks fourth.

Central Plains Baseball League

Future seniors Lance Hoge (pitcher) and Rob Vaughn (catcher), junior Adam Muenster (infield), sophomore Justin Lindsey (pitcher) and incoming freshman Nick Martini (outfielder) are playing for the Junction City Generals this summer… The Generals made the championship game of the 2008 National Baseball Congress (NBC) Midwest Regional, but had to forfeit the championship game after two rainouts… However, Junction City still qualified for the 2008 NBC World Series, which begins Friday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kan… Updated stats for the Generals have not been updated during the past week… However, Muenster did lead the team with a .333 average (17-for-51) last week with one double, one home run and five RBI… Martini was hitting .293 (17-for-68) with four doubles, eight RBI and an on-base percentage of .451… Vaughn, who hadn’t played in four weeks due to injury, was .257 (9-for-35) with three doubles, one home run and six RBI… In six appearances, three of which were starts, Lindsey held a 1-2 record with a 2.19 ERA in 24.2 innings… The sophomore right hander had struck out 25 batters as opposed to just nine walks… Hoge was 1-1 in four appearances (three starts) with a 0.00 ERA in 17.2 innings… All seven runs Hoge had allowed were unearned… The senior-to-be had walked eight and struck out 19.

M.I.N.K. League

Drew Biery, playing for the Topeka Golden Giants, was hitting .295 (13-for-44) with four doubles, two home runs and nine RBI as of June 23, but updated statistics are not available.

Walter Johnson Baseball League

Matt Giller, who redshirted the 2008 season, is playing for the Salina Blue Jays this summer, but updated statistics are not available… The Blue Jays were 4-20 as of July 17 and are the No. 6 seed in the 3rd Annual Walter Johnson League Tournament, which begins Monday.
