NORMAN, Okla. — Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.

The seventh installment, along with links to each of the players’ statistics, are listed below:

Summer Collegiate League
Doug Buser (Kitsap Bluejackets) and Garrett Buechele (Palm Springs Power) continue their outstanding play in the West Coast League. On July 18 and 20, Buser hit .500 for the Bluejackets in their series against the Corvallis Knights. The first game the Bluejackets won 4-2 but the second game they fell 3-1. For the season, Buser is hitting .328 with 13 RBIs and nine stolen bases.

Buechele had a nice outing on July 19 where he hit a double in the bottom of the first to bring in two runs and put the Power up 2-1. With Buechele’s hitting the Power were able to grab a 4-3 win in 11 innings. On the season Buechele is hitting .260 with 10 RBIs and one homerun.

Playing for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the Alaska Baseball League are Sooners Bryan Groth, Antwonie Hubbard and Matt Harughty. Groth has one homerun and two RBIs in limited action while Hubbard is 2-0 when pitching with a 2.25 ERA and 27 strikeouts. Harughty is hitting .225 with one homerun and 15 RBIs.

Also playing in the Alaska Baseball League, for the Mat Su Miners, are pitchers Michael Rocha, Jeremy Erben and Garrett Richards. Rocha has a 1-0 record with a .49 ERA and 14 strikeouts. Erben is continuing his hot play with a 2.52 ERA and 24 strikeouts. Richards is 1-1 with nine strikeouts through 14 innings pitched.

In Cape Cod league action, Aaron Baker (Warehem Gatemen) scored on a sacrifice fly to put Warehem up 3-1 over Cotuit. Baker also hit a single in the ninth to plate another runner and give Warehem a 4-1 victory. The Gatemen are currently riding a five game winning streak and are battling for first place in the Western Division.

Jamie Johnson (Bourne Braves) is also playing well in the Cape Cod League. Johnson had two RBIs off two hits in a 9-2 win over Hyannis on July 21. For the season Johnson is hitting .232 and has two homeruns.

OKLAHOMA IN THE MINORS
Daniel McCutchen continues to pitch well for the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees (Class AAA). Through 70 innings pitched McCutchen has 58 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.58.

David Purcey was the starting pitcher for the Syracuse Chiefs (Class AAA) in its July 21 game against Louisville. In the game Purcey allowed just six hits and had seven strikeouts. For the season Purcey has an 8-6 record with a 2.69 ERA and 121 strikeouts.

Mark Redman is riding a three-game winning streak on the mound for the Colorado Sky Sox (Class AAA). During the three-game span Redman has 12 strikeouts with a 2.06 ERA.

Joseph Dunigan is on a five-game hit streak for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Class A). During the streak Dunigan has 10 hits, four RBIs and a .520 batting average. For the season Dunigan has a .224 average with eight homeruns, 19 stolen bases and 36 RBIs.

SOONERS IN THE MAJORS
Over the last three games for the Atlanta Braves, Greg Norton has two hits and a homerun. The homerun came on July 19 against the Washington Nationals. However, Norton’s homerun and RBI were not enough to beat the Nationals as they fell 8-2. For the season Norton is hitting .438.

Greg Dobbs had a masterful outing, on July 22, for the Philadelphia Phillies. In the game against the New York Mets he had one run on one hit in an 8-6 win. For the season Dobbs is hitting .310 with 18 RBIs and two homeruns.

Geoff Geary continues to close well for the Houston Astros. He has a 2.45 ERA through 44 innings pitched and has only allowed 32 hits with 37 strikeouts.
