VBL Week Five Pitchers of the Week

Chris Greiner, Haymarket Senators, RHP, So., West Hartford, Conn. (Hartford)

The sophomore from Hartford pitched a complete game in a 5-1 win over Harrisonburg last week. He had an ERA of 1.00 while allowing six hits with 11 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .182. He ranked first in the league this week for strikeouts. Greiner now has an ERA of 2.45 and is 2-1 for the season. In 36 2/3 innings pitched he has 41 strikeouts and 29 hits against him and one save.

Adam Hoyt, Staunton Braves, LHP, So., Chesapeake Beach, Md. (Radford)

The left-handed pitcher from Radford was 1-0 this week earning the complete game victory in an 11-2 win over Woodstock. The sophomore allowed only two earned runs with seven strikeouts and had an opponent batting average at .212. Hoyt is now 2-1 on the season with an ERA of 2.86 and 22 strikeouts. Out of 85 opponent at bats, the opponent batting average comes out to be .235 and just seven earned runs.

VBL Week Five Players of the Week

Tyler Townsend, Winchester Royals, 1B, So., Lewes Del. (Florida International)

Out of 11 at bats last week, Townsend had seven hits, one double, three home runs, four RBIs and 17 total bases to give him a batting average of .636. Townsend’s on-base percentage was .667, and he had a stolen base. Out of the seven hits last week, Townsend earned a 1.545 slugging percentage. In the league, the sophomore ranked first in batting average, first in slugging percentage, second in on-base percentage, tied for first in home runs, and first in total bases. For the season, Townsend leads his team in batting average with .387, runs scored with 18, total bases with 53, slugging percentage with .707 and on-base percentage with .489.

Ryan Gauck, Fauquier Gators, 1B, So., Clifton Park, N.Y. (Marist)

A sophomore from Marist, Gauck went 11 for 16 last week at the plate with a batting average of .625. The Red Fox had seven runs scored, 10 hits, one double, one triple, one home run, four RBIs, and 16 total bases to give him a slugging percentage of 1.000. Of the five games Gauck played, he had an on-base percentage of .727 and a stolen base. Among the rest of the league, Gauck ranked second in batting average, tied for third in slugging percentage, first in on-base percentage, first in runs scored, second in hits, and second in total bases. For the season, Gauck leads his team in batting average at .389, runs scored with 18, hits with 37, doubles with seven, triples with two, total bases with 54, on-base percentage with .491, second in slugging percentage with .568 and second in RBIs with 15.

Steve Stropp, Luray Wranglers, C, Jr., Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. (Florida International)

From Florida International, Stropp had four runs scored, five hits, three home runs, nine RBIs and 14 total bases in 10 at bats. At the end of the week he ended up with a .500 batting average, .500 on-base percentage and an impressive 1.400 slugging percentage. For the season, Stropp has a batting average of .250, 10 RBIs and 16 total bases with a slugging percentage of .571. In the league this week he ranked second in slugging percentage and first in RBIs.

The sophomore Highlander had eight hits, five runs scored, two RBIs and eight total bases with an on-base percentage of .524. River’s week, his first in the league, was highlighted by nine stolen bases in nine attempts. The best total for the entire season in the league is 15.
