EASTERN DIVISION PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Player of the Week: Mike Spina (Cincinnati), Amsterdam

Mike Spina batted .500 (8-for-16) as the Mohawks took over first place in the Eastern Division. Spina bashed three home runs, drove in seven runs, recorded three doubles, walked four times and posted a 1.250 slugging percentage. The 2008 Minnesota Twins draft pick (Round 45) had at least one hit and one RBI in all five of Amsterdam’s games. He homered in his first three games of the week. Through nine contests
with the Mohawks, Spina is batting a team-high .480.

Pitcher of the Week: Sean Lucas (Virginia), Saratoga
Sean Lucas is the second-straight reliever to win the Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week award. He went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances for Saratoga. Lucas allowed two hits in three and two-thirds innings pitched, walked one and struck out five. He threw two scoreless frames against Little Falls on June 25 and struck out four. The Fishkill, N.Y., native held Bennington scoreless in one and two-thirds
innings of relief on June 27.
WESTERN DIVISION PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Player of the Week: Ryan Nokelby (Texas Lutheran), Brockport
Ryan Nokelby hit .458 (11-for-26) with six RBI and six runs scored in six games for the Riverbats. Nokelby added seven walks, two doubles, three stolen bases and a .594 on-base percentage. The Brockport outfielder recorded at least one hit in all six contests and posted four multi-hit and two multi-RBI performances. Nokelby was the NYCBL Player of the Day on Saturday after going 5-for-8 with three RBI and three runs scored in a ‘Bats doubleheader sweep of Bolivar.

Pitcher of the Week: Adam Curynski (Southern Illinois), Webster

NYCBL veteran Adam Curynski is the Western Division Pitcher of the Week. In two starts, he went 2-0 with a 0.00 earned run average. Curynski allowed 10 hits, walked one and struck out seven. He pitched in two Webster shutout victories. Curynski blanked Brockport through eight innings on June 24 and held the ‘Bats to five hits. Sunday, the Webster, N.Y., native pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out three in a rain-shortened game against Niagara. This is Curynski’s third season in the league. He pitched for Webster last year and Rochester (now Webster) during the 2006 season.
