South Carolina 11 Florida 3

Hoover, Ala. – South Carolina scored five runs in both the second and eighth innings and behind a solid seven inning effort from senior right-hander Nick Godwin earned an 11-3 win over Florida on day two of the SEC Tournament in an elimination game. Carolina junior first baseman became the seventh player in SEC history to record 60 or more career homers and also set a South Carolina career record for RBI with 200 in his three seasons with the Garnet & Black. Carolina improves to 38-20 on the year with the loss dropping Florida to 34-22 this season. The Gamecocks will meet the loser of the LSU-Vanderbilt game on Friday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 4 pm ET and the game broadcast live on FSN South and the Gamecock Radio Network.

“I know that coaches say this all the time but I’m really proud of our guys,” said head coach Ray Tanner. “They bounced back from yesterday, which was a tough loss for us but they responded and got the win. That just shows the kind of character this team has. I’m delighted that we are staying here.”

Alabama 5 Georgia 2

HOOVER, Ala. – Alabama junior right hander Austin Hyatt held the top-seed Georgia to four hits in recording his second career complete game en route to a 5-2 win in an elimination game at the 2008 Southeastern Conference Tournament at Regions Park in Hoover.

Alabama improved to 33-25 overall with its third win in seven days against sixth-ranked Georgia. The win also came a little over 14 hours after the Tide’s opening round loss to Kentucky. The Crimson Tide and Wildcats played until 1:54 p.m. Thursday morning. Georgia fell to 35-21-1 overall and became the first No. 1 seed to go two-and-out since the Georgia Bulldogs accomplished the feat in 1987.

Alabama will face the loser of the Kentucky-Ole Miss game on Friday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. (CDT).

LSU 8 Vanderbilt 2

HOOVER, Ala. — Junior left-hander Blake Martin limited No. 21 Vanderbilt to one earned run in seven innings Thursday night to lead eighth-ranked LSU to an 8-2 SEC Tournament victory at Regions Park.

The Tigers, who extended their winning streak to 18 games, advanced to play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against either Alabama, Kentucky or Ole Miss. Vanderbilt will face South Carolina at 3 p.m. Friday in an elimination game.

The Tigers’ 18-game streak is tied for the second-longest in LSU history. The 1986 LSU squad also won 18 consecutive contests, and the 1997 club posted a school-record 19 straight victories.

Ole Miss 8 Kentucky 7 FINAL

HOOVER, Ala. – Michael Guerrero came up big for the Rebels again on Thursday as the junior hit his second home run in as many nights down the left field line, this one a two-run walk-off in the ninth to give Ole Miss (36-22) an 8-7 win over No. 19 Kentucky (42-13) in the second round of the SEC Tournament.

Guerrero’s homer, which was featured among ESPN Sportscenter’s Plays of the Day, and a full replay of the game will be televised Friday on CSS at 11:30 a.m. CT.

After watching Kentucky take a one run lead in the top of the ninth, Logan Power opened the bottom half of the inning with a single before Guerrero came up with the game winning home run two batters later to give the Rebels the win.
