CBB Event: D-2 Northeast Regional Franklin Pierce vs Caldwell

The College Baseball Blog will be providing a Live Blog tonight of the final two games of the NCAA Division 2 Northeast Regional from Franklin Pierce University and Caldwell College. The Franklin Pierce Ravens enter with a 41-12 record while Caldwell enters 34-17 record. Feel free to comment throughout the games in the comment section of the site. I will be providing updates every half inning as the NCAA allows.

Kyle Vazquez will start for Franklin Pierce with a 6-1 record and a 3.18 ERA while Caldwell will start Eric Hines who is 5-1 with a 2.03 ERA.

First inning

Franklin Pierce First Inning:

Kevin Renaud takes a four pitch walk to lead off the inning.

Derek Ingui hits a towering home run over the centerfield backing to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead after two batters.

Scott Savastano flies out to right field for the first out of the game.

Kevin Rivers hits a groundball to Caldwell shortstop Edgar Santos who makes a diving stop and throws to first for the out.

Matt Anderson flies out to right field for the third out of the inning.

FPC 2 Caldwell 0

Caldwell First Inning:

Tommy Murphy hits a shot down to third baseman Matt Skeffington who gets a glove on it but can’t make the play so Murphy reaches.

Raymond Keelan hits a shot back up the middle as we have 1st and 2nd with no outs.

Adric Saxon hits a flyball to right fielder Kevin Rivers who makes a solid catch with Tommy Murphy advancing to third.

Chris Chiarappa hits a ground ball to third as the Ravens get Kellan out at second but can’t turn two. Caldwell scores the runner from third on the play. Ravens lead 2-1.

Anthony Velazquez hits a shot over shortstop Scott Savastano to put runners on the corners with two outs.

Jorge Torres flies out to centerfielder Kevin Renaud to end the inning.

After 1 inning, FPC 2 Caldwell 1

Franklin Pierce Second Inning:

Steve Carr gets a singles to left field to starts the inning off with a hit.

Cliff Hicks pops up to second base for the first out of the inning.

Matt Skeffington flies out to right field.

Jake Christman pops up to the shortstop.

After 1 1/2 innings, FPC 2 Caldwell 1

Caldwell Second Inning:

Gabriel Molina grounds out to third baseman for the first out.

Edgar Santos hits a groundball to Savastano for the second out.

Jon Irwin is hit with the first pitch of his at-bat to reach first.

Leadoff hitter Tommy Murphy comes up hits a groundball right to Savastano and he goes to second to retire the side.

After 2 innings, FPC 2 Caldwell 1

Franklin Pierce Third Inning

Top of the order for Franklin Pierce here with Kevin Renaud getting a single to start the inning off.

Derek Ingui hits the ball right to short for a double play ball.

Scott Savastano hits a double which gets by the left fielder for him to reach second.

Kevin Rivers flies out to left field to end the inning.

After 2 1/2 innings, FPC 2 Caldwell 1

Caldwell Third Inning

Raymond Keelan starts off the inning for the Cougars by striking out on six pitches.

Patrick Saxon hits a groundball to the shortstop and Saxon is called out on a borderline call at first base which seemed to be the wrong call.

Chris Chiarappa flies out to right field for the final out of the inning.

After 3, FPC 2 Caldwell 1

Vazquez seems to have a solid curveball and placing his fastball on the plate.

Franklin Pierce Fourth Inning

Matt Anderson grounds out to the third baseman for the first out.

Steve Carr grounds out to first base for the second out.

Cliff Hicks hits a grounder through the shortstop and third base hole to avoid the 1-2-3 inning.

Matt Skeffington bunts down to third base and the ball hits the bag to put runners on first and second with two down.

Wild pitch by Hines puts runners on second and third with 2 outs and a 1-2 count on Christman.

Jake Christman reaches first on a hit by pitch on a 1-2 count to load the bases.

Kevin Renaud hits a bases clearing double to put FPC up 5-1.

Derek Ingui hits a hanging curveball over the fence in left to put the Ravens up 7-1. It is his second homer of the game to give him four RBI on the day.

Scott Savastano gets hit by another pitch. Runner on first with two outs.

Kevin Rivers hits a moonshot to Right field off the light tower to make it 9-1 for Franklin Pierce.

That will do it for Caldwell starter Eric Hines who threw 66 pitches, 40 strikes in 3.2while allowing nine runs (all earned) on nine hits while walking one batter and hitting one. Thomas Forkin will take over on the mound.

Matt Anderson welcomes Forkin by hitting a homer over the fence in left to put Franklin Pierce up 10-1.

Steve Carr gets caught looking to end the inning.

After 3 1/2 innings, Franklin Pierce 10 Caldwell 1

Caldwell Fourth Inning

Omar Velazquez hits a ball through the first and second base hole to put the lead runner on.

Wild pitch by Vazquez lets Velazquez get down to second base.

Jorge Torres hits a single by the second baseman to drive home Velazquez to put the score at 10-2 for Franklin Pierce

Gabriel Molina hits an opposite field homer to put the score at 10-4 with no outs in the fourth.

The long layoff has seemed to affect Vazquez on the mound as he has not gotten a batter out in the inning yet. FPC head coach Jayson King just went to the mound to talk to Vazquez. There is action in the FPC bullpen.

Edgar Santos flies out to center fielder Renaud for the first out.

Vazquez strikes out Jon Irwin for the second out of the inning.

Tommy Murphy hits a groundball to second baseman Jake Christman to end the inning.

After 4 innings, FPC 10 Caldwell 4

Franklin Pierce Fifth Inning

Cliff Hicks grounds out to shortstop for the first out of the inning.

Matt Skeffington flies out to right field

Jake Christman also flies out to right to send the Ravens down 1-2-3.

Caldwell Fifth Inning

Raymond Keelan leads off the inning for the Cougars by getting struck out by Vazquez on six pitches.

Adric Saxon makes it two in a row and three out of the last four to strike out.

Chris Chiarappa makes it a perfect inning with a ground out to third.

After 5 innings, Franklin Pierce 10 Caldwell 4

Franklin Pierce 6th inning

Kevin Renaud leads off the inning with a towering pop up to the shortstop.

Derek Ingui hits a fly ball to center for the second out.

Scott Savastano flies out to the right field fence for another 1-2-3 inning.

Franklin Pierce 10 Caldwell 4

Caldwell College 6th inning

Velaquez gets caught looking on a nasty curveball for the first out.

Jorge Torres pops up to the second baseman for the second out.

Gabriel Molina hits a ground ball to third baseman but the ball goes off his glove for a hit. Runner on first with two outs.

Edgar Santos gets a single to the shortstop Savastano but no chance to make a play from deep in the hole. Runners on first and second with two outs.

Jon Irwin hits a tapper back to the pitcher for the third out of the inning.

After 6 innings, Franklin Pierce 10 Caldwell 4

Franklin Pierce 7th inning

Kevin Rivers starts the inning off with a ringing single to right center field.

Matt Anderson strikes out looking with Rivers stealing on the play and reaching second safely.

Rivers takes third base on a wild pitch.

Steve Carr strikes out swinging with a runner on third.

Franklin Pierce 10 Caldwell 4

Caldwell 7th Inning

Tommy Murphy hits a line drive at Christman for the first out.

Raymond Keelan strikes out for the third straight at bat. Two down.

Adric Saxon strikes out looking 1-2-3.

Franklin Pierce 8th inning

Matt Skeffington flies out to right field for the first out.

Jake Christman hits a single to right field.

Renaud hits a homer to left. Franklin Pierce up 12-4.

Derek Ingui hits a bouncing ball to third that the third baseman stays back for and can’t get him at first.

Scott Savastano hits a double to left field to put runners on second and third with one out.

That will do it for Forkin as Juan Mejia takes over on the mound.

Kevin Rivers hits a Sac fly to center field to put Franklin Pierce up 13-4. Savastano moves up to third.

Passed ball by Chiarappa allowing Savastano to score. Franklin Pierce 14-4.

Matt Anderson hits a fly ball to center for the final out.

After 7.5 innings, Franklin Pierce 14 Caldwell 4

Caldwell 8th inning

Chris Chiarappa leads off the inning with a grounder back to the pitcher for the first out.

Omar Velazquez flies out to right field for the second out.

Jorge Torres pops up to the pitcher for the final out.

Franklin Pierce 9th inning

Steve Carr grounds out to third for the first out.

Cliff Hicks flies out to right field for the second out.

Matt Skeffington hits a single up the middle.

Jake Christman hits a two run homer over the right field fence. Franklin Pierce 16 Caldwell 4

Kevin Renaud reaches base on a dropped pop up by the pitcher Mejia.

Bernosky pitch hits for Ingui and strikes out.

Caldwell 9th inning

Heath Wasylow takes over on the mound for Franklin Pierce.

Gabriel Molina gets a infield single.

Wasylow balks Molina to second.

Aaron Hoffstatter strikes out swinging to make the first out.

Joe Hydro strikes out to make it two outs.

Tommy Murphy strikes out to end the game.
