FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as Stephen F. Austin outfielder Kevin Crabtree and A&M-Corpus Christi pitcher Omar Gutierrez are awarded weekly honors. Crabtree claims his second award on the year joining Mike Jaworski, Northwestern State, Trent Lockwood, UTSA and teammate Noel Trevino as the only players in the SLC to receive two player of the week awards. Gutierrez receives his first award of the season and the Islander’s third.
HITTER
Kevin Crabtree, SFA, Sr., OF, Sugar Land, Texas
Crabtree continued his torrid pace, extending his career-best hit streak to 12 games with hits in five Lumberjack victories for the week. He had multiple hits in four of the five games, including home runs in three straight. He moved into sole possession of second place in career doubles on Sunday with his game-winning RBI double against Texas State. His three doubles and three home runs for the week helped contribute to his 1.048 slugging percentage for the week.

PITCHER
Omar Gutierrez, AMCC, Sr., RHP, Sinton, Texas
In a start versus the top team in the league, Gutierrez pitched the first complete game of his career with 14 strikeouts in the process. The 14 strikeouts are the most by an Islander pitcher since 2004 and the most by a Southland Conference pitcher this season. Allowed just one runner to reach scoring position after the fourth inning. Against Houston Baptist on Tuesday, he pitched a perfect inning of relief with one strikeout.
