Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Weekly Awards Announced

FROM CBB NEWS SOURCES lead photosIRVING, Texas — John Allman ( Kansas ) and Kenn Kasparek ( Texas ) have been tabbed the Phil lips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games of April 28-May 4 in voting by a media panel. Allman is honored for the first time in his career while Kasparek receives his second weekly accolade (March 14, 2006).

Allman went 8-for-16 in four victories against Big 12 opponents last week. He posted a pair of doubles, a home run and six RBI.

The senior left fielder helped KU shut out Missouri for the first time since 2000 and sweep Oklahoma in a series for the first time since 1979.

Allman recorded three hits in KU’s victory over No. 14 Missouri on Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium, driving in a pair of key runs in the eighth inning with a single. In KU’s 13-10 win over Oklahoma on Saturday, he went 4-for-5, finishing a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. The St. Lou is , Mo. native scored three times and drove in a pair of runs in the game and made a diving catch in left field in the seventh inning to preserve the lead. Allman also doubled in a run in KU’s 9-4 triumph on Sunday.


Kenn Kasparek, Texas , RHP, Jr., 6-10, 245, Weimar , Texas / Weimar

Kasparek threw 17.0 shutout innings on the week, allowing just three hits, one walk while hitting two batters. He pitched the 20th no-hitter in school history against the Texas State Bobcats on Tuesday, facing the minimum 27 hitters for the first time in school history. Five days later, Kasparek pitched eight scoreless innings on just three hits and one walk in a 2-0 blanking of Baylor in the series finale on Sunday. He fanned 18 batters over two games with nine K’s in each contest.
