Game 1: Boston College 5 Maryland 4 (10 innings)

Pinch-hitter Harry Darling was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning to plate Eric Campbell with the winning run as the Eagles defeated Maryland, 5-4.

Tony Sanchez led the offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate and also knocked in a run. Michael Belfiore contributed a hit, run scored and RBI, while Perdios and Darling each collected a RBI.

Game 2: Boston College 7 Maryland 5

John Leonard (4-0) pitched 5.2 innings in relief of James MacDonald to help defeat the Terrapins, 7-5, in game two of the doubleheader and sweep the three-game series.

Leonard recorded two strikeouts and scattered two runs on four hits in the win. Belfiore collected the final two outs to earn his seventh save of season.

Coastal Carolina 10 Ga Tech 9

ATLANTA, Ga. – The 15th-ranked Coastal Carolina University baseball team (38-10) evened the series against #26 Georgia Tech (32-14) with a thrilling 10-9 win over the Yellow Jackets May 3 at Russ Chandler Stadium. Coastal hit four home runs and had a four-run lead heading into the ninth, but Tech scored three in that inning and had the tying run in scoring position before junior Pete Andrelczyk (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) struck out Tony Plagman to end the game.

Coastal batted around in the second, scoring five runs and doing most of its damage with two outs. Senior Tommy Baldridge (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) and sophomore Adam Rice (Murphy, Texas/Elgin C.C.) singled to lead off the inning. After junior Tyler Bortnick (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) bunted both runners over, the Yellow Jackets’ Eddie Burns struck out sophomore Chance Gilmore (Surfside Beach, S.C./Virginia). Freshman Rico Noel (Lawton, Okla./Lawton) came through with a two-run single for the first runs of the game. Freshman Scott Woodward (Markle, Ind./Norwell) was hit for the 22nd time this season which set up
junior David Sappelt’s (Graham, N.C./Southern Alamance) 11th home run of the season. His shot to straightaway center field made it 5-0 Coastal.

Miami (FL) 5 St. Mary’s 0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore left-hander Eric Erickson allowed just two hits in seven scoreless innings and junior first baseman Yonder Alonso hit his second home run of the series and his third in the last four games as No. 1 Miami shut out Saint Mary’s (Calif.), 5-0, Saturday night at Mark Light Field. Miami (38-5), behind Erickson’s best outing of the season, held the Gaels (22-21-1) hitless over the final six innings to win its 11th straight weekend series to open the season.

Miami’s three pitchers – Erickson, Kyle Bellamy and Carlos Gutierrez – combined to hold SMC to just two hits all night, the lowest hit total by a Hurricane opponent this season. Erickson struck out seven as he improved to 7-0 with the win. Bellamy and Gutierrez came on in the eighth and ninth innings respectively to preserve UM’s third shutout in the last five games.

FSU 9 Clemson 8 (10 Innings)

Clemson, S.C. – Third-ranked Florida State (38-7, 20-5 ACC) scored all nine of its runs in the final three innings including four in the tenth to cap off a 9-8 victory over Clemson (24-21-1, 10-14-1) Saturday evening in game one of a three game set. The win snapped a four-game losing streak to the Tigers at Doug Kingsmore Field as it was the first FSU win at Clemson since May 2, 2004.

Florida State moved to 11-2 in one-run games and 4-1 in extra innings. Eleven of the 13 one-run games have occurred against ACC teams while four have resulted in walk-off victories.

High Point 9 NC State 6

High Point University senior Randy Schwartz drove a one-out, bases-loaded double off the center-field wall Saturday night to highlight a ninth-inning rally that lifted High Point to a dramatic 9-6 win over 18th-ranked North Carolina State at Doak Field at Dail Park.

Schwartz’s drive off Wolfpack closer Jimmy Gillheeney came after NC State had rallied from a 6-0 deficit to tie the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh. The Panthers, who won for the fifth time in seven games and the 14th time in their last 20 games, rallied in the ninth to improve to 18-24. The Wolfpack had its four-game winning streak snapped and lost for just the fifth time in its last 22 games to fall to 31-14.
