Texas State 11 Southeastern Louisiana 0

SAN MARCOS – Steven Siers pitched seven full innings at Alumni Field blanking Southeastern Louisiana for his first career shut out, as the Texas State Bobcats run-ruled the Lions 11-0 Saturday afternoon in Hammond, La.

Texas State wasted no time putting the first run on the board when Laurn Randell put a two-out base hit into right field at the top of the first. On a wild pitch to Paul Goldschmidt, Randell advanced to second and Goldschmidt brought him around with a shot to centerfield.

Capitalizing on a second two-out rally, the Bobcats jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth with help from the Lion infield. Lance Loftin struck out swinging, but a wild pitch from Josh Black allowed him to take first base. A blunder from Jordan D’Arensbourg allowed Ben Theriot to take first base and Jonathan Farrow knocked a single to left centerfield that allowed Loftin to score from second base. With two runners on, Elliott Babcock snagged a pair of RBI with a triple to right field.

The sixth inning proved just as hearty for the ‘Cats, beginning with a lead-off walk to Goldschmidt, who moved to second on a sac bunt from Loftin. With two outs, D’Arensbourg fumbled a second ball at second base to put Farrow on first and give Texas State a pair on the diamond instead of a retired inning. Babcock knocked a hard-hit to the shortstop to score Goldschmidt and Bret Atwood cracked his first pitch to right field to load the bases. Thomas Field hammered a long triple to right center to give the ‘Cats an 8-0 lead.

SLU brought in Eric Callender in hopes of shutting down the Bobcat bats, but Texas State cranked out four more hits and scored three more runs to extend the margin. The defense closed out the tilt, retiring the side in the bottom of the seventh to run rule the foe, 11-0.

Siers snagged six strikeouts in the 87-pitch performance and improved to 3-1 on the season.

Black was credited with the loss and falls to a 3-3 overall record.

All but two Bobcats managed a hit in the winning effort. Babcock went 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead the team. Goldschmidt, Farrow and Atwood grabbed two hits in the victory.

Texas State will close out the series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m
