Alabama 7 Southeastern Louisiana 0

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama left-hander Miers Quigley threw one less scoreless inning Wednesday night than Southeastern Louisiana used pitchers in leading the Crimson Tide to a 7-0 win at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Quigley (4-1) held the Lions to six singles in seven innings for his fourth win of the season and third straight victory. He added three strikeouts and did not walk a batter in his 90-pitch gem.

Austin Graham pitched the final two innings and allowed three hits and struck out two as the Tide posted its second shutout of the season. Alabama also blanked Jacksonville State 5-0 on March 26, in Jacksonville.

Illinois 17 Illinois College 0

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois exploded with an eight-run third inning, sending 13 batters to the plate, and seven pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout of Illinois College as the Orange and Blue won, 17-0, at Illinois Field. John Schlichter had a career night, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs, three doubles and two runs, and DH Daniel Webb had his third four-RBI game of the year as the Illini improved to 18-8 overall and 16-4 in their last 20 games, the team’s best stretch since 2000. Illinois has scored 35 runs in its last two games.

Illinois opened up offensively in the third, pounding out seven hits, stealing four bases and capitalizing on one Blueboy error. Craig Lutes singled to start the inning then stole second and advanced to third when the throw went into center field. Kyle Hudson walked and stole second, allowing Lutes to steal home on the throw. Joe Bonadonna reached on a bunt single that put Hudson on third and Bonadonna stole second. Brandon Wikoff singled through the right side, driving home both runners, and Schlichter doubled to left-center, scoring Wikoff. Mike Giller moved Schlichter to third with a base hit and Daniel Webb deposited the first pitch he saw over the fence in right field for his fourth home run of the year, a three-run bomb. Aaron Johnson singled to restart the inning and, after a pitching change, Lutes walked. Casey McMurray drew a walk and Hudson brought home Johnson with a sacrifice fly to put the Illini up 8-0.

Campbell 8 UNCW 6

WILMINGTON, N.C.- Mike Causey scooped a game-winning two RBI single to short center field and Brandon Scott induced a ground ball double play in the ninth to lift Campbell to an 8-6 non-conference victory over in-state rival and No. 22 ranked UNC Wilmington, Wednesday night at Brooks Field. The last time Campbell (12-21, 6-12 A-Sun) dropped a ranked opponent was last season when the Camels beat No. 2 UNC by a score of 7-5 in 11 innings.

Causey, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., had a tremendous day at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored in addition to his game-winning single in the ninth. Joining Causey was Scott who also had three hits and two RBI, including his team-leading third homer of the season.

Freshman Ellis Lowe extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a bases loaded RBI single up the middle in the fourth. Lowe finished the day going 1-for-5 with an RBI.

Louisville 12 Marshall 8

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Josh Richmond, Justin McClanahan and Chris Dominguez went a combined 10 for 15 at the plate with eight RBI and scored seven times, leading the University of Louisville to a 12-8 win over Marshall on Wednesday evening in The Ville.

The Thundering Herd (14-16-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first when Kurt Lipton, Tommy Johnson, Jeff Rowley and Tyler Oliver each plated runs in consecutive fashion for Marshall.

Towson 9 Temple 5

TOWSON, Md. – Second baseman Gary Helmick, rightfielder Brian Conley, third baseman Chris Wychock and first baseman Greg Furmanek each belted two-run homers as the Tigers (16-16) won for the eighth time in their last ten games, handing Temple University (14-15) a 9-5 loss in a non-conference game at John B. Schuerholz Park on Wednesday afternoon.

With the victory, the Tigers continued their winning ways at home. Towson now has a 12-2 record at Schuerholz Park.

Towson has also won five of its last six games. The victory enabled the Tigers to even their record at 16-16, marking the first time they’ve had a .500 record since they were 2-2 on the year.

San Diego 7 UC Riverside 2

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Behind another solid offensive output and a solid pitching performance from freshman left-hander Sammy Solis, the 13th-ranked University of San Diego baseball team cruised their way to a 7-2 win over visiting UC Riverside Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Cunningham Stadium.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 24-11 overall and have now run their winning streak to five games. With the loss, the Highlanders fall to 9-18 overall.

The Toreros wasted no time in scoring as they did most of their scoring damage in the first inning scoring four runs on three hits. Sean Nicol got things started with a walk and moved to second on a Josh Romanski single to right field. James Meador loaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch and Logan Gelbrich drove in Nicol with a RBI single to left centerfield. Kevin Hansen drove in the second run with a bases-loaded walk and the final two runs came on a Jose Valerio two-run single up the middle to give USD a 4-0 lead.
