First-place votes: Lubbock Christian 20, Lewis-Clark State 1

Chis Holguin#1 Lubbock Christian swept three games against against #5 Oklahoma City, 8-3, 6-0, and 15-14. Chris Holguin got a seven-inning complete game shutout in the second game, and Holguin is 7-0, 2.09 ERA. The Chaparrals then swept a double-header against College of the Southwest. The Chaparrals have won 30 straight. They are the first school other than Lewis-Clark State to be ranked #1 since 2005.They travel to Northwest Oklahoma State on Friday and Sunday, and Friends on Sunday; that’s five games scheduled over three days.

The Chaparrals lead Oklahoma City in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings by 5 ½ games.

#2 Lewis-Clark State lost two of three to Division II Dixie State. In the first loss, L-C State’s Kyle Greene hit two grand slam home runs; this was the ninth time in NAIA history that a player has hit two grand slams in a game. In the second game, the Rebels handed Mike Guerrero his first loss of the season, and ended his streak of scoreless innings at 30. Four of the eight runs charged to Guerrero were unearned. The Warriors recovered by sweeping a double-header against the College of Idaho, 6-5 (10 innings) and 13-6. Josh Ashenbrenner singled in the winning run in the first game. The Warriors travel to Concordia-Portland this weekend.

#3 Lee won two of three over #15 Auburn-Montgomery, mercy-ruled Covenant, and defeated Cumberland 8-7 (10 innings). Their lead in the Southern States Athletic Conference over Auburn-Montgomery is two games. The Flames host Southern Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday, and #10 Tennessee Wesleyan on Sunday.

#3 Azusa Pacific defeated The Master’s 7-4; Brice Cutspec went 3-4 with a home run for the Cougars. They won two “not close” games against Concordia-Irvine. The Cougars have won ten straight. They play #14 Fresno Pacific on Wednesday and Thursday, and travel to San Diego Christian on Saturday.

Azusa Pacific’s lead in the Golden State Athletic Conference over #14 Fresno Pacific has been extended to three games. The Sunbirds swept three games against Westmont last week, and two more against Vanguard. Chris Schwinden pitched a two-hit complete-game shutout against Vanguard. The Sunbirds host Concordia-Irvine on Saturday.

#5 Oklahoma City was swept by Lubbock Christian, and split a double-header with Northwood (TX). They play Saint Gregory’s home-and-home on Thursday and Saturday, and travel to Rogers State on Sunday.

#6 U. of Mobile split two games with Belhaven, and swept a double-header against Stillman. They play at Spring Hill on Friday and Saturday.

#6 U. of the Cumberlands won three of four against Campbellsville, and lost to #10 Tennessee Wesleyan 9-6. They travel to Berea on Wednesday, and Georgetown College on Friday and Saturday.

#8 Embry-Riddle swept three games against Northwood (FL), who was #16 at the time. They lost 9-4 at Florida Tech, a good Division II team. They host Saint Thomas on Friday and Saturday.

#9 Spring Arbor won four games against Taylor, then split a double-header with Huntingdon. The loss ended a 12-game winning streak. Jesse Bachman is 5-0, 1.46 ERA, and .266 at the plate. The Cougars travel to Huntingdon on Thursday, host Rochester College on Saturday, and play home-and-home with Siena Heights on Monday and Tuesday.

#10 Tennessee Wesleyan split with #12 Union, and defeated U. of the Cumberlands and Martin Methodist. Their only game this week is at #3 Lee on Sunday.

#11 Wayland Baptist won two of three against Southern Nazarene, and defeated McMurray. The Pioneers travel to the U. of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Friday and Saturday, and host Hardin Simmons on Tuesday.
