#1 Lewis-Clark State did not play this week. They play at Division II Dixie State Friday-Sunday, and host in-state rival College of Idaho on Tuesday and Wednesday.
#2 Lubbock Christian swept three games against against Southern Nazarene. The Chaparrals have won 25 straight. Ryan Burke is hitting .431 with four home runs. The showdown with #5 Oklahoma City takes place in Lubbock Friday and Saturday.
The Chaparrals lead the Stars in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings by 2 ½ games.
#3 Lee‘s 34-game winning streak was broken with a 3-0 loss to Shorter. Daniel Gandia pitched a three-hit shutout for the Hawks. He is from Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, has pitched 14 innings, and has a record of 2-0, 1.93 ERA. Shorter added a 4-2 win to sweep the double-header. The two losses reduced the Flames’ lead in the Southern States Athletic Conference to one game over #14 Auburn-Montgomery, and they host the Senators on Friday and Saturday. The Flames recovered from the losses by sweeping two games against Milligan.
#3 Azusa Pacific defeated Cal Baptist, swept a double-header against Point Loma Nazarene, and lost an exhibition game with the Class A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by only 6-3; Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 3-for-4 with a stolen base for the Cougars. They defeated The Master’s 6-5 on Wednesday. They play The Master’s again on Thursday, and Concordia-Irvine on Saturday.
Azusa Pacific’s lead in the Golden State Athletic Conference over #19 Fresno Pacific has been extended to 2 ½ games. The Cougars host the Sunbirds April 9-10. The Sunbirds were swept by Cal Baptist on Saturday. They host Westmont on Thursday, and Vanguard on Saturday.
#5 Oklahoma City won two of three against #9 Wayland Baptist. The Stars won the rubber game 11-0, and Tyler Kelsey pitched a one-hit, seven inning shutout. Kelsey is 4-0, 1.97 ERA on the season.
#6 U. of Mobile swept three games against William Carey, and split a double-header with Faulkner on Tuesday. They host #25 Belhaven on Friday and Saturday.
#7 Tennessee Wesleyan split two games with Virginia-Wise. They host #9 Union on Saturday, and travel to #8 U. of the Cumberlands on Tuesday.
#8 U. of the Cumberlands swept four games against Lindsey Wilson, and lost to #9 Union 13-5 on Tuesday. The Patriots host Campbellsville on Friday and Saturday.
#9 Wayland Baptist lost two of three to #5 Oklahoma City. They host Southern Nazarene on Thursday and Friday.
#9 Union swept a double-header against Virginia Intermont, lost to #8 U. of the Cumberlands, and lost to Campbellsville. They play #7 Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday.
#11 Embry-Riddle swept three games against Warner Southern, who were ranked #11 last week. Chris Maloney pitched a nine-inning three-hit shutout for the Eagles in the second game of the series. The Eagles lost a seven-inning exhibition game to the Class A Daytona Cubs 5-4. Billy Hootman hit a home run to tie the game in the top of the seventh for the Eagles, but the Cubs pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh to win it. The Eagles travel to #16 Northwood on Friday and Saturday.
