The College Baseball Blog recently made the trip to Chestnut Hill to take in Game 1 of the doubleheader between ACC opponents Boston College and Georgia Tech. The weather was bitter cold for March 29th as during the first few innings there was snow flurries flying onto Commander Shea Field.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets used a balanced as they jumped on BC starter Terry Doyle in the second inning with two runs coming across with the bases loaded when Jason Haniger got hit by a pitch and Jeff Rowland hit a sacrifice fly to account for both runs in the inning. Derek Dietrich hit his tenth homerun of the year in the third inning which was crushed over the right center field wall where he was in a trot before getting out of the batters box. The Yellow Jackets scored once more in the fifth and seventh to get out to a 5-0 lead. BC was able to get on the board in the seventh inning on a Tony Sanchez home run and picked up another run in the eighth inning to set up the final scoreline of 5-2. BC did threaten in the ninth inning with two runners on and no outs but GT reliever Brad Rulon was able to get out of the jam without allowing any runs.

GT starter David Duncan was solid throughout the game keeping the BC Eagles off balance with a solid fastball and alright curve as he only allowed four hits and two runs in his eight innings of work. Some MLB team will likely give Duncan a shot in the upcoming MLB draft due to his 6-8 frame. Terry Doyle continued to struggle with his command and had no real action on his pitches anymore. It is really sad to see the former CCBL Co-Pitcher of the Year continue to struggle on the mound.
