ACC Weekend Preview 3/28-3/30

Here is the Weekend Preview for the ACC for the weekend of March 28th through March 30th. The Florida State Seminoles have opened up a four game lead in the loss column in the Atlantic Division while Miami (FL) has a half game lead over the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Miami (FL) at Duke

The Hurricanes make the trip to Durham to take on the Blue Devils for a weekend series. The Hurricanes have a 19-2 overall record and 7-1 in the ACC. They are led by National Player of the Year candidate Yonder Alonso who is hitting .397 with five homers on the year. Duke is 21-5 overall with a 4-5 record in the ACC. They are led by sophomore Alex Hassan who is hitting .400 for the year.

Friday: DU Andrew Wolcott (2-1, 2.54 ERA) vs UM Chris Hernandez (4-0, 1-11 ERA)
Saturday: DU Will Currier (2-3, 4.50 ERA) vs UM-Enrique Garcia (0-0, 7.53 ERA)
Sunday: DU Grant Monroe (4-1, 3.46 ERA) vs UM- TBA

Prediction: Miami (FL) will take two out of three games.

NC State at North Carolina

The NC State Wolfpack head down the road to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in Cary this weekend. NC State comes in with an overall record of 14-8 and 4-5 in the ACC. Matt Payne is the top hitter with a .379 average. The Tar Heels with an overall record of 20-4 and 7-2 in the ACC. UNC’s top hitter is Dustin Ackley who is hitting .433 to continue his outstanding college career.

Prediction: UNC will sweep NC State

FSU at Wake Forest

The Seminoles head to Winston-Salem NC to take on the struggling Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Seminoles have an overall record of 21-2 and 9-0 in the ACC. They are led by All-American candidate Buster Posey .422 on the year. Wake Forest is 11-11 on the year while being 4-4 in the ACC. They are led by Allan Dykstra who is leading the ACC with a .560 on-base percentage.

Va Tech at UVA

The Hokies head over to Charlottesville to take on their chief rivals from the University of Virginia. The Hokies have struggled early in the year with an overall record of 8-15 and 0-9 in the ACC. Va Tech is led by Matt Hacker who is hitting .380 on the year. The Virginia Cavaliers have a 20-5 record and 5-4 in the ACC after sweeping Boston College last weekend. The Cavs top hitter is Dan Grovatt who is batting .408.

Prediction: UVA sweeps the Cavs

Clemson at Maryland

Clemson enters with an overall record of 16-7 and 4-5 in the ACC as they head north to take on the Maryland Terrapins. Kyle Parker is leading hitter with a .373 average. The Terps have an overall record of 13-11 and 2-7 in the ACC. They are led by Scott Swinson who is 3-2 with a 4.24 ERA.

Ga Tech at Boston College

The Yellow Jackets head north to take on the Boston College Eagles this weekend. GT has an overall record of 19-5 and 5-4 in the ACC. They are led by freshman All-American candidate Derek Dietrich who enters the weekend with a .356 average and nine homers on the year. Boston College comes in with a 11-11 record while 2-7 in the ACC. They have been led this season by Tony Sanchez who is batting .391 average. The CBB will be in attendance for the games on Saturday and Sunday.

Prediction: GT sweeps the Eagles.

“Georgia Tech’s series opener against Boston College has been
postponed due to weather conditions in the Boston/Chestnut Hill area.

“The Yellow Jackets and Eagles will now play a doubleheader Saturday
beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Commander Shea Field. Sunday’s game will
continue as previously scheduled at 1 p.m.”
