Auburn 2 Kentucky 0

The Auburn pitching trio of Grant Dayton, Evan Crawford and Bryan Woodall combined to shutdown the Southeastern Conference’s highest-scoring offense on Friday night, holding No. 2 Kentucky scoreless in a 2-0 win that snapped UK’s 19-game winning streak.

Dayton (2-1) went 6.0 innings for the second time this season, scattering six hits and a walk while striking out five. Though he found himself in a jam in the first with the bases loaded and just one down, he rebounded to get a strikeout and a flyout to end UK’s scoring threat.

“Tonight was a big, big game. We were playing the number two team in the nation in Kentucky but everything went great,” Dayton said. “Kentucky has real good hitters, but after getting out of the first inning and then we got the run, it brought me back to life. We put up the run in the first and that was enough for my confidence.”

LSU 8 Arkansas 7

BATON ROUGE — A walk-off home run by Matt Gaudet in the bottom of the 11th inning propelled LSU to victory over Arkansas, 8-7, Friday night at Alex Box Stadium.

LSU’s Matt Clark and Sean Ochinko added blasts of their own, giving the Tigers (13-6) their first win in four SEC games this season.

“What a great ballgame,” exclaimed LSU head coach Paul Mainieri. “I thought both teams played really hard and wanted to win. Our kids responded to their runs, which I thought was outstanding. I knew Arkansas wouldn’t quit when we were up. They are a tough team.”

The Tigers found themselves down after facing only four batters in the top of the first. After retiring the first two batters with relative ease, Blake Martin (1-1) gave up a single to Andy Wilkins. His hit was critical, seeing that it was followed by a two-run homer to left center field by Coon, his second of the season.
