CBB Column: Big Ten Struggling

The main reason why we saw the Uniform Start Date was that the Big Ten Conference really used their leverage to implement the new rule to level the playing field across the nation. The Big Ten this past weekend picked up some embarrassing losses with Ohio State losing to Air Force and Maine. The Michigan Wolverines picked up a loss to GA Southern on Friday with another bad loss earlier in the year to Portland. Both of these teams are supposed to be competing for the conference title shouldn’t they be representing the conference better?

They are not the only teams in the conference with bad losses as Minnesota was embarrassed in a three game sweep by Ole Miss to open the season. The reports from Ole Miss was that the Gophers did not look ready to play even though they practiced during spring season workouts at the Metrodome which allowed them to run full-team practices like many of the southern schools have. The Purdue Boilermakers are probably the best winless team in the country as they have an 0-9 record with five of those losses coming by one run.

The Big Ten also has some big wins on the season with Indiana beating LSU in a game during the opening weekend and Iowa ended up knocking off Vanderbilt last weekend. Minnesota won the Dairy Queen Classic tournament with TCU, Pepperdine, and Tulane. These are just a few of the examples of the big victories by the Big Ten in the opening weekend.

Do you think this Uniform Start date has been a success during the early part of the season or what?

Come on…so the reason why Minnesota won that tourney was because they were the Home team?
