carroll_sawyer.jpgThe Kentucky Wildcats are off to a 9-0 start after sweeping through the Coca-Cola Classic in Mobile Alabama which was hosted by South Alabama, taking two mid-week games from Oakland, and knocking around Butler this weekend to continue to stay undefeated.

They have been led by Sawyer Carroll and Colin Cowgill who lead the team in batting average. Carroll has a .600 batting average, five homers, and 23 RBI in 30 at bats this season. Cowgill has been just as good with a .412 average with three homers and 13 RBI. This includes his two home run performance on Saturday against Butler in a 21-2 victory over Butler.

The pitching staff has been just as strong with a staff record of 9-0 with a 1.82 ERA with only one shutout on the season. The three weekend starters are Chris Rusin, Greg Dombrowski, and Scott Green. Rusin has two starts under his belt accumlating a 2-0 record with a 0.64 ERA in 14 innings. Greg Dombrowski is a sinker baller from Rome NY that has also started out the season strong with a 2-0 mark with a 0.90 ERA. Scott Green has the best potential for a MLB contract with his 6’8 245 pound body as he is listed on several national preseason pitcher of the year lists. He has the highest ERA out of the weekend starters with a 2.25 ERA and a 2-0 record.

Kentucky looks like a team that could return to prominence with such a strong pitching staff and a solid lineup led by Cowgill and Carroll. This week they should be ranked near the Top 10 in every national poll and if they are not that is a disgrace to how strong this team is.
