NAIA highlights for Feb. 5-11

Summary of results for the top NAIA baseball teams:

Lubbock Christian won three of four at Texas Wesleyan, and they are 9-1. They play four games against new-to-Division-I Houston Baptist Feb. 15-16.

Oklahoma City swept a double-header at Bacone on Saturday, and defeated Dakota Wesleyan on Sunday. The Stars are 6-0, and they play Oklahoma Christian and Lindenwood next week.

Chad FlettLewis-Clark State defeated College of Idaho (formerly Albertson) twice, 10-0 and 4-3. They split with Division III Whitworth, losing 6-5, and winning 10-2. Whitworth’s win was their first over L-C State since 1999, and Chad Flett got the win for the Pirates. The Warriors host a tournament next weekend with Mayville State, College of Idaho, and Whitworth.

Bellevue did not play last week. They are 0-4 after being swept by Cal Baptist Jan. 31-Feb. 2. They play at Sterling next weekend.

Jonny BravoAzusa Pacific defeated Cal State-LA (Division II) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Division III), then split their conference opener at Point Loma Nazarene, Losing 2-8 and winning 6-4. Stephen Kohatsu was 3-4 with a home run in the win, and Jonny Bravo was the winning pitcher. The Cougars defeated Whittier (Division III) on Monday. They are 6-1, and play Cal State-LA and The Master’s next week.

Spring Arbor doesn’t start their season until Feb. 22.

Daniel BrodieCal Baptist went into the weekend with an 8-1 record, and their only loss was to Cal State-San Bernardino (Division II), who has also had a good start to the season. However, they went to Fresno Pacific, a school which has had a baseball team for three years, to be the first visitor to their new ball park. The result was two losses, 8-2 and 2-1. The second game was scheduled for seven innings, and was decided in the bottom of the twelfth when Justin Keeney drove in the winning run. Daniel Brodie, Kellen Nunes, and Antone Ontiveros combined to hold the Lancers to one run on eight hits.

Cal Baptist plays San Diego Christian and Cal State-San Marcos during the week, then plays a double-header at Westmont on Saturday.

Cumberland started their season with a loss to Faulkner, then split a double-header with them and got another win over Auburn-Montgomery to make their record 2-2. This weekend, they host Missouri Valley and Indiana Tech.

Embry-Riddle won two of three against Shorter. The Eagles are 5-3 under new coach Randy Stegall. They travel to Edward Waters this weekend.

Lee swept four games with Virginia Intermont, and their record is 7-1. They play two games against Montreat and four against U. of Rio Grande this week.

The showdown between Lubbock Christian and Houston Baptist has been cancelled due to weather.
